The Met Gala 2017: The Best

I should have mentioned that I left off a bunch of people. I don’t really judge the men and I’m not really interested in random models who may or may not have walked the Victoria’s Secret runway. So if you’re looking for Adam Levine’s wife… she’s not here. Anyway…some of these women went full on for the theme and for that I commend them. Others not so much, but they rocked it enough to get on the best dressed list. My absolute best dressed is one of my favorite looks in a very long time…

Lily-Rose Depp in Chanel
Screen Shot 2017-05-02 at 9.52.45 AM

Lily-Rose models for Chanel, so of course she would wear it on the red carpet. This is GORGEOUS. The color is amazing and the flower detail is exceptional. Side note – do you know Johnny Depp is suing his management company for letting him overspend. He sources about $30K of wine a month. Sounds about right to me.

Lupita Nyong’o in Prada

Thank you Lupita for NEVER being boring. Not sure how on-theme this is. But then again, maybe I don’t know what IS on-theme???? Deep thoughts by Jack Handy/Maura Slater. I love the color and detail. Not everyone has the confidence to carry this off, but Lupita sure does. Speaking of confidence…

Rihanna in Comme des Garçons

YES. This is what I’m talking about. Rihanna never fails to absolutely bring it to the Met Ball. What’s more on-theme than the actual designer being celebrated. This is beyond cool. I mean, I can’t imagine sitting was easy, but WHO CARES. I’m obsessed. This was almost my best dressed by the way. PS. I heard she turned Eddie Redmayne and his wife away from her after party. Rihanna doesn’t play.

Serena Williams in Versace

A kick ass tennis star who was pregnant when she won the Australian Open showing off her baby bump on the red carpet is ALWAYS going to be a win for me.

Reese Witherspoon in Mugler

For someone who wears Draper James 99% of the time, Reese knows how to step out of the box when it matters. You can’t see it here but her hairstyle is very architectural. She looks phenomenal. And can we pause for a second and give praise to Big Little Lies being the best show ever? It better win ALL the Emmy’s.

Gwyneth Paltrow in Calvin Klein

A couple things – Gwyneth here (and Amy Schumer and Lena Dunham) have all stated in the past that they would never attend another ball. Well, they are eating crow all for different reasons. Goop here is about to launch a magazine with Condé Nast (the owner of Vogue) so she is just kissing some boss ass. This dress may be divisive but I love it. It’s such throwback 90s Gwyneth circa the Brad Pitt days with the added color to match her RL dress she wore when she won the Oscar. I love it!

Cara Delevinge in Chanel

I’m obsessed with this. She looks so rad. She just shaved her head for a role and THIS is how you do the spray paint look (AHEM Kate Hudson). Top pick for me!

Laura Dern in Gabriela Hearst

laura dern

I’m so happy we live in a world post Jurassic Park where Laura Dern still gets amazing roles. We can probably thank Reese Witherspoon for that. She looks dynamite.

Celine Dion in Versace

This might be here because of my love for Celine. I don’t really know anymore.

Zendaya in Dolce and Gabanna

For an actress that I cannot name a single starring role, Zendaya is killing it. She gets the best dresses for these events. I love this look. Keep it up, Z.

Ruth Negga in Valentino

I love her. Fashion-wise, she is so exciting. Did you also know she was in World War Z? As we know, I’m not a huge Brad Pitt fan since the awfulness of 2005, but that movie was pretty good! This dress is gorgeous and perfect for the event.

Kate Bosworth in Tory Burch

Annual post where I wonder HOW Kate Bosworth has maintained relevancy. And now I will add to it – if Tory Burch can be this interesting at the Met, can she get more interesting with her fashion line? Enough with the TB flats.

Brie Larson in Chanel

I love love love Brie Larson. She’s such an interesting actress and the way she physically abhorred having to give Casey Affleck all those awards was awe inspiring. Also this dress is so cool and you can’t really tell but she has gold flakes in her hair. In a good way…not like this

Naomi Campbell

Take note amateur models. This is how it’s done.

Dakota Johnson in Gucci

Dakota Johnson is enslaved to Gucci the way that Jennifer Lawrence is to Dior. Speaking of Dior, we didn’t see any of their designs last night. Interesting. Anyway, after the Oscars disaster, I’m glad to see Gucci did right by her. I did NOT like that she was photographed smoking in the bathroom at the Met. Very uncool.

Emmy Rossum in Carolina Herrera

This is perfect. It’s so cool and edgy and aligned to the theme.

Lena Dunham in Elizabeth Kennedy

Did I ever think that she would be on my best dressed list? Of course not. But she is. It’s a great nod to the theme and she’s looks confident instead of like a deer in headlights. She is another star who said she HATES the Met Gala. But I suppose when your show ended and you’re looking for your next endeavor… you’ll suck it up.

Karlie Kloss in Caroline Herrera

That’s a wig. It looks good. Also, I love how different this is from Emmy’s, yet from the same designer. We’ve seen enough of Taylor’s friends to ask the big question. WHERE IS SHE? I need a new album. I heard she’s hiding away in Nashville recording her album. Well guess who is going to Nashville in two weeks. And we all know what happened last time I want to a city where my favorite people live…

Diane Kruger in Prada

Hi I’d like to order this to be my potential wedding dress. Thanks!

Evan Rachel Wood in Altuzarra

Evan’s commitment to the pant ensemble from Altuzarra is commendable. And she pulls it off so well. Do you think it’s weird her ex-husband is marrying Kate Mara? Random thoughts at 8pm on a Tuesday…

Jennifer Connelly in Louis Vuitton

Hi I would like to own this for, well I don’t know, but for something.

Haley Bennett in Dolce and Gabbana

Go big or go home… especially when you’re an up and coming actress trying to make a difference.

Solange in Thom Browne

Never stop doing you, Solange. Never stop. This is amazing.

Lily Aldridge in Ralph Lauren

Someone at Ralph Lauren got spicy this year and I AM A FAN. This is interesting and sexy without being lingerie adjacent like everyone else resorts to. But quick question – how does one consume cocktails with a face veil?

Michelle Monaghan in Paco Rabanne

There are two things about Paco Rabonne that I love: 1) Saying his name and 2) this dress he designed.

Claire Danes in Monse

This is crackpot insanity and I LOVE IT. Just like this season of Homeland.

Allison Williams in DVF

Ignore her horrible make-up and look at the structure of the dress. The word I would use is intriguing. I love it.

Elizabeth Banks in Michael Kors

See Michael Kors, stick to what you know. This looks amazing on her and while it’s making me dizzy, I’m here for it. Not quite convinced by the hair color though.

Cassie and PDiddy

Sure Cassie, whatever. But I didn’t realize how much I’ve missed Puff Daddy until I saw him in this. Come back to us Diddy!

Riley is Elvis’ granddaughter and really making a name for herself as an actress. And clearly also as fashion icon.

Pharrell Williams and his wife, Helen in Comme des Garçons

Pharrell is another co-host. Helen just had triplets AND wore this in public. I think we know who the real hero is.

Bea Shaffer in Alexander McQueen

Too bad her daughter got the good dress. I bet Anna Wintour is cursing Chanel right now.

And drumroll for the best dressed….

Priyanka Chopra in Ralph Lauren

WHAT IS THIS STUNNER???? I am obsessed. I LOVE a trench. But a trench with a train? BRILLIANT. She wore a short version to the after party because apparently someone can stick to a look. Julia thought she was a random model but she’s actually an actress who stars in Quantico AND is very good friends with Megan Markle. Thumbs up ALL AROUND.

A big congrats to the slew of you for doing a fantastic job out there. Keep up the good work!
