The 2018 Met Gala: The Meh’s

Sorry for the dry spell but I was busy doing things like getting married and moving and blah, blah, blah – let’s just get on with it. If there was anything that was going to get me back to the blog, it was going to be the Met Gala and watching reality stars and Instagram models try to decipher the theme (Heavenly Bodies: Fashion and the Catholic Imagination) without royally offending someone. What we got were A LOT of headpieces and crosses, some snoozes, some delights and a bunch of junk. But let’s get the snoozes/junk out of the way, shall we! (more…)

The Met Gala 2017: The Mehs

NEW YORK, NY - MAY 01: Anna Wintour attends the "Rei Kawakubo/Comme des Garcons: Art Of The In-Between" Costume Institute Gala at Metropolitan Museum of Art on May 1, 2017 in New York City. (Photo by Neilson Barnard/Getty Images)

So last night was Anna Wintour’s prom. The First Monday in May belongs to Vogue and whoever they deem relevant enough to join them. Every year they have celebrity co-hosts. This year they were Katy Perry (eye roll) and Gisele and Tom Brady (ugh seriously) and the theme was something something Comme des Garçons. I won’t get into the details but know that the brand is of Japanese origins and you can see the influence in a lot of Rei Kawakubo (the founder)’s looks. Think high drama and structure. The goal on Met night is to represent the theme in one’s own creative way. My issue with the Met Gala is two-fold: 1) Some celebs say “screw the theme” and just wear the prettiest dress they can find which is sooo boring and 2) Anna Wintour’s thoughts on who is relevant do not match mine. For instance, Coco Rochas, one of the most prolific models of the last two decades and a staple at the Met Gala was not invited this year. But Kylie Jenner was. Anna has sold her soul to the Instagram star. Be careful Anna, it didn’t work out for the Fyre Festival…  (more…)

The Best Dressed at the Met Gala

zoe saldana

What I love about the Met Gala is that people up their fashion game. It doesn’t always work out in the end, but at least people are taking risks! The Oscars have become a snooze. Even the Grammy’s don’t pack the same punch. It’s like they’re all scared of being called out by Giuliana Rancic, which PLEASE, who cares what she thinks. Let’s check in with those who got it right on fashion’s biggest night! (more…)

The Best Fashion at the Oscars

charlize

I am really impressed. People BROUGHT it this year. What probably helps is that FINALLY people are moving on from that sheer look. Keep it classy people! I’ll tell you, I went back and forth all day on my very best dressed. I’m excited about my choice, though! Let’s play a quick game- you can pick ONE designer to design your Oscar dress, who do you pick? I think I would go Armani!  (more…)

SAGs Best Dressed

alicia

The SAGs tend to be a little toned down when it comes to fashion. Some even go short for the event. It’s the last big event before the Oscars – almost like a rehearsal dinner. And one is not going to bring their “bridal moment” to the rehearsal dinner. So the effect is that nothing is WOWing me (except one…at the end of the post) but I can’t call everything bad or meh, so I’m getting into the mindset of the SAGs and picking my best of the mehs. Does this even make sense? (more…)
